The Wall of Porta Romana
2024 - Milan, Italy
The Wall of Porta Romana started with a question: what should a library be now? Not a silent container, but a civic instrument for culture, exchange, and public life. Set in Milan at the threshold of Porta Romana, the project treats the future library as both urban landmark and shared interior world, shaped as much by the city around it as by the people moving through it.

Architecturally, the project is conceived as a sculpture held inside a calm urban wall. Structurally, it develops through a hybrid armature of steel, cables, and CLT that opens the interior and allows flexibility over time. Technologically, it is designed as a library for the present century, where daylight, ventilation, energy collection, water reuse, and fabrication logic are not added later, but built into the project from the beginning.
